Workflow: Holiday and Weekend Pause

The Holiday and Weekend Pause setting automatically pauses workflow email and text sending during weekends and U.S. public holidays. This helps your workflows respect business hours and avoid sending messages at times when your audience is less likely to engage.

What This Setting Does

When enabled, this setting pauses workflow runs when they reach a Send Email or Send Text node during a weekend or holiday. The workflow then resumes later based on your selected resume time and buffer settings.

  • Automatic pause for email and text workflow actions during weekends and holidays
  • Configurable resume time so messages resume at a time that fits your business day
  • Resume buffer so you can wait additional business days before resuming
  • Account-level setting that applies across your workflow system
  • U.S. holiday calendar used by default

How It Works

  1. A workflow reaches a Send Email or Send Text node during a weekend or U.S. holiday.
  2. The workflow pauses automatically instead of sending the message immediately.
  3. LeadCenter calculates the next valid resume time by skipping weekends and holidays, applying your selected business-day buffer, and using your selected resume time.
  4. When that time arrives, the workflow continues from where it paused.

Where to Configure It

  1. Go to Workflow templates.
  2. Click the Settings button (gear icon) in the top-right corner.
  3. The Workflow Settings window opens.

Settings Options

Pause workflow runs email and text sending during weekends and U.S. public holidays

Turn this setting on if you want workflow email and text actions to pause automatically during weekends and U.S. holidays.

Resume Time

Choose the time of day when paused workflows should resume. This is useful if you want messages to restart at the beginning of your business day instead of as soon as the holiday or weekend ends.

Resume Buffer

Choose how many business days to wait after a weekend or holiday before the workflow resumes. This can help you avoid sending messages immediately after a long weekend or holiday break.

Example

Example configuration:

  • Pause enabled
  • Resume Time: 8:00 AM
  • Resume Buffer: 1 business day

If a workflow reaches a Send Email node on a Friday that is also a holiday:

  • the workflow pauses immediately
  • LeadCenter skips Saturday and Sunday
  • if Monday is also a holiday, it is skipped too
  • the workflow resumes on Tuesday at 8:00 AM

What This Setting Affects

  • Send Email nodes
  • Send Text nodes

These actions pause automatically when they are reached during a blocked time.

What This Setting Does Not Affect

  • Wait nodes
  • Filters
  • Branches
  • Update Contact
  • Create Task
  • other non-messaging workflow actions

Important: Wait nodes always count time normally. The Holiday and Weekend Pause setting affects only Send Email and Send Text nodes.

How It Relates to Wait / Delay Nodes

A workflow may finish waiting during a weekend or holiday, but the next Send Email or Send Text action can still pause because of this setting.

That means:

  • the Wait node itself is not delayed
  • the message action after the wait may still be delayed further

Best Practices

  • Enable this setting if your contacts expect communication only during business hours.
  • Set the resume time to match the start of your business day.
  • Use a buffer of at least 1 business day if you do not want messages going out immediately after a long weekend.
  • Consider your audience’s time zone when choosing the resume time.
  • Review workflows that rely on tight timing so you understand how this setting may affect message delivery.
