Orion Sleeve Accounts: How Linking Affects Totals

Orion uses a “sleeve” structure to organize accounts. Understanding how sleeves work helps ensure your current amount and issued amount totals are calculated correctly in LeadCenter.

Overview

In Orion, one custodial registration can be divided into multiple sleeves. Each sleeve typically represents a different investment strategy (for example, Advisor Managed vs. Tactical).

In LeadCenter, linking sleeves correctly ensures that account totals match Orion’s reporting and that your contact’s financial account totals are accurate.

What Are Sleeve Accounts?

A sleeve is a sub-account under a larger Orion account structure. You may see:

  • A main (custodial) account plus multiple sleeves
  • Only multiple sleeves (no separate parent account returned)

How Totals Are Calculated in LeadCenter

Total Current Amount

The Total Current Amount includes the current amount of the main account and all linked sleeves.

  • Main account current amount — included
  • All linked sleeve current amounts — included

Formula: Total Current Amount = Main Current Amount + Sum of All Sleeves’ Current Amounts

Note: All Orion account types are included in the current amount total. This represents the total value today.

Total Issued Amount

The Total Issued Amount depends on the sleeve type. This is what keeps issued totals aligned with Orion’s expected reporting.

  • Custodial account — excluded from total issued
  • Non-sleeve account — excluded from total issued
  • Normal / Contribution / Distribution sleeves — included in total issued

How LeadCenter totals issued amounts:

  • If the main account is a Custodial or Non-sleeve account:
Total Issued = Sum of all sleeves’ issued amounts
  • If the main account is a Normal / Contribution / Distribution sleeve:
Total Issued = Main issued amount + Sum of all sleeves’ issued amounts

How to Link Orion Sleeves Correctly

Scenario A: Orion sends a Custodial Account + Sleeves

If Orion provides a custodial (main) account along with sleeves, link them together:

  1. Import the accounts from Orion.
  2. Link the Custodial account as the main account.
  3. Link the related sleeves under it.

Why this matters: The custodial account’s issued amount is excluded, but the sleeves are summed correctly.

Scenario B: Orion only sends sleeves (no parent account)

Sometimes Orion returns sleeves without a separate parent account. This is normal — a parent account may be $0 and may not appear.

What to do:

  1. Group sleeves that belong together (they share the same account number prefix).
  2. Link them as sleeves and choose one as the main account.
  3. Since they are sleeves, the total issued amount will include all of them.

How to Identify Sleeve Accounts

A quick way to identify sleeves is by the account number pattern:

  • Main/Custodial account: 637-439451 (no underscore)
  • Sleeve account: 637-439451_Advisor Managed (underscore + strategy name)

Accounts with the same prefix (before the underscore) belong to the same registration and should be linked together.

Summary

Account Type Included in Total Current? Included in Total Issued?
Custodial account Yes No
Non-sleeve account Yes No
Normal sleeve Yes Yes
Contribution sleeve Yes Yes
Distribution sleeve Yes Yes

Tip: If your Orion account number includes an underscore (for example, 637-439451_Advisor Managed), that’s typically a sleeve. Sleeves with the same prefix usually belong together.

Troubleshooting

  • My issued total looks too low: Confirm the Orion sleeves are linked under the correct main account and that all related sleeves are included.
  • My issued total looks too high: Check whether a custodial (main) account was linked as a sleeve or duplicated as a separate main account.
  • I only see sleeves and no parent account: This can be normal. Link the sleeves together and choose one as the main account.

FAQs

Do I need to link contribution and distribution sleeves?

Yes. If those sleeves belong to the same registration, link them under the main account so totals stay accurate.

Why does the custodial account often show $0?

In Orion, the custodial account is often a container and the balances are allocated to sleeves.
