LeadCenter supports two ways to assign commissions to writing advisors on financial accounts:
Production Split Mode (percentage-based) and Amount Mode (fixed dollar amounts).
This flexibility allows firms to support standard commission splits as well as negotiated or flat-fee arrangements.
Overview
When adding writing advisors to an account, you must choose one commission mode for that account:
Production Split Mode
Assign commissions as percentages (for example, 50%). Commissions are calculated automatically and adjust when account values change.
Amount Mode
Assign a fixed dollar commission (for example, $500). The amount remains fixed and does not recalculate.
Important: You cannot mix Production Split and Amount Mode on the same account.
Production Split Mode
Production Split Mode is the traditional method for assigning writing advisor commissions.
Enter a percentage for each writing advisor (for example, 50%, 30%, 20%).
Total percentage across all advisors cannot exceed 100%.
Commissions are calculated using the formula: Base Commission % × Product Fee × Amount Issued × Production Split %
Commission amounts automatically update when account values or product fees change.
This mode is best suited for standard commission structures where payouts should scale with account value.
Amount Mode
Amount Mode allows you to assign a fixed dollar commission to each writing advisor.
Enter an exact dollar amount for each advisor.
The commission amount does not auto-recalculate if account values change.
Total assigned amounts cannot exceed the available commission pool.
The commission amount is optional when first adding the advisor and can be set later.
Amount Mode is ideal for negotiated, flat-fee, or non-standard commission arrangements.
Commission Pool Validation
When using Amount Mode, LeadCenter validates assigned commissions against the available pool:
Total Commission Pool: Product Fee × Amount Issued
Available Pool: Total pool minus amounts already assigned
You cannot assign an amount that exceeds the available pool.
Mode Locking
Once the first writing advisor is added to an account, the commission mode becomes locked:
If the first advisor uses Production Split, all advisors must use Production Split.
If the first advisor uses Amount Mode, all advisors must use Amount Mode.
To switch modes, all existing writing advisors must be removed from the account.
Deleting all writing advisors unlocks the account so you can choose a different mode.
Adding Writing Advisors in Amount Mode
Open the account’s detail page.
Click Add Writing Advisor.
Select Amount in the Entry Mode toggle.
Select the advisor.
Enter the commission amount (optional).
Click Save.
Editing Commission Amounts
For advisors using Amount Mode, commission amounts can be updated at any time:
Open the advisor’s row menu.
Select Edit commission.
Enter the new amount.
Click Save.
Non-Issued Accounts
For accounts that have not yet been issued:
Writing advisors can be added using Amount Mode.
The commission amount must be set to $0.00 until the account is issued.
Once the account is issued, you can edit and apply the final commission amount.
Reporting Behavior
Reports automatically account for both commission modes:
Amount Mode advisors appear with their fixed dollar commission.
Production Split advisors appear with calculated commission values.
Totals and aggregations include both modes correctly.
