Risk Tolerance

The Risk Tolerance field on the contact record helps classify a client’s investment risk profile more precisely. LeadCenter now supports five risk tolerance options, ranging from conservative to aggressive.

Available Risk Tolerance Options

The following options are available, from least to most aggressive:

  • Conservative — prioritizes capital preservation with minimal risk exposure
  • Moderate Conservative — leans toward preservation while accepting limited growth-oriented risk
  • Moderate — balances risk and return with a diversified approach
  • Moderate Aggressive — accepts higher risk for greater growth potential while maintaining some stability
  • Aggressive — maximizes growth potential with higher risk tolerance

How to Set Risk Tolerance

  1. Open the contact’s detail page.
  2. Go to Overview, then open the Contact Information sub-tab.
  3. In the Additional Info card, click Edit.
  4. Select the appropriate Risk Tolerance value from the dropdown.
  5. Click Save.

Tip: If you also manage advisor assignments in the same section, see Contact Writing and Servicing Advisors.

Where Else Risk Tolerance Is Used

  • Financial Questionnaire — clients can select their risk tolerance when completing the questionnaire, and the value maps automatically to the contact record.
  • Zapier Integration — risk tolerance can be read and updated through supported Zapier actions and triggers.
  • API — the field is available through the Leads API for reading and writing.
  • Compliance Audit — risk tolerance is included in compliance audit checks and exports.

Important Notes

  • The two additional values — Moderate Conservative and Moderate Aggressive — are available immediately for all contacts.
  • Existing contacts with previously selected values such as Conservative, Moderate, or Aggressive are not changed automatically.

Best Practices

  • Use the value that best matches the client’s current investment profile and planning discussions.
  • Keep the value updated if the client’s goals or risk preferences change over time.
  • Review this field alongside related client-profile details when updating planning or compliance information.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do the new options change existing contacts automatically?

No. Existing contacts keep their current value unless you edit and save a different one.

Can clients set risk tolerance themselves?

Yes. If your Financial Questionnaire includes this field, the client’s selection can map automatically to the contact record.

Is Risk Tolerance available outside the contact page?

Yes. It is also available through the Financial Questionnaire, Zapier, API access, and compliance audit tools.
