New: Primary and Professional Contacts Are Now Excluded from Duplicate Detection
04/09/2026
LeadCenter now excludes Primary Contacts and Professional Contacts from duplicate detection when they intentionally share the same email address or phone number. This helps reduce false duplicate alerts and keeps duplicate review focused on true duplicate records.
What’s New
Reduce false duplicate alerts — Contacts linked as Primary Contacts or Professional Contacts are now excluded from duplicate detection when they share the same email or phone number.
Keep existing family exclusions in place — Contacts in the same family/household continue to be excluded from duplicate detection.
Apply exclusions across duplicate views — These exclusions now affect the Duplicates tab, duplicate hover cards, the Possible Duplicate badge, the Merge Contacts page, and duplicate indicators in pipeline views.
How It Works
LeadCenter still detects possible duplicates when contacts share the same email address or phone number. However, if two contacts are intentionally linked through an expected relationship, they will no longer be treated as duplicates just because that contact information matches.
This now applies to:
Primary Contacts — If one contact is assigned as another contact’s primary contact, neither will appear as a possible duplicate because of that shared email or phone number.
Professional Contacts — If a contact is linked as a professional contact, such as a CPA, attorney, or financial advisor, that relationship is also excluded from duplicate detection.
Family/Household Members — Existing household-based duplicate exclusions remain in place.
If one of these relationships is removed and the contacts still share the same email or phone number, they can appear as possible duplicates again the next time duplicate detection runs.
Why It Matters
Make duplicate alerts more accurate — Focus attention on true duplicate records instead of intentional relationship-based matches.
Reduce unnecessary cleanup work — Spend less time reviewing duplicate alerts for contacts that are supposed to share contact details.
Keep linked relationships intact — Better reflect the way advisors and teams actually manage clients, households, and related professionals in LeadCenter.
